Abstract

ABSTRACT

Zamzam water has long been believed to possess health benefits by Muslims around the world due to its sacred origin. This study aims to analyze Muslim community narratives regarding their perceptions and experiences of Zamzam water in the context of health, using a humanities linguistic approach. The research employs a qualitative method with narrative analysis techniques involving 30 subjects who have performed the Hajj pilgrimage. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the theory of religious discourse analysis. The findings reveal that Zamzam water is perceived not only as a regular water source but also as a spiritual symbol of healing, believed to bring peace, relieve minor illnesses, and strengthen spirituality. The use of language filled with religious metaphors reinforces the performative meaning within the subjects' narratives. This analysis is supported by recent scientific literature indicating that Zamzam water contains beneficial minerals, is free from contamination, and may support both physiological and psychological health. The study concludes that the community's narratives about Zamzam water are part of a spiritual epistemology rooted in Islamic values and supported by modern scientific findings. It is recommended that future research develop health promotion models based on spirituality that can be integrated with conventional medical approaches.
